The Walking Dead on DirecTV!

These days, people tend to be indicating definite preferences for special television programming that you can find on Direct TV, rather than basic cable programming that we have all gotten used to. For example, one of the biggest hits in recent years has been the post-apocalyptic zombie drama "The Walking Dead", which has captured an audience that encompasses and goes beyond fans of its own genre. Essentially, the show follows sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes as he wakes up from a coma to find that the world has fallen victim to a zombie uprising. Grimes sets out to find and protect his family, and the show quickly becomes a survival drama, following the remaining humans as they search for new ways to protect themselves and each other.

While this engaging show’s first season gathered a fan base in 2010, the second season has just recently begun (October 16th) and is only 4 episodes in on AMC, setting off what is to be a 13 episode follow-up. In the first season, Rick Grimes made his way to Atlanta, where he found some of his family getting by with a small group of fellow survivors. However, due to the nature of the world as set in the show, it is not safe for anyone to stay anywhere very long. So, because of this, as well as a specific search for solutions and survivors, season 2 will see Grimes and the group leaving Atlanta to head to Fort Benning.

So far, the primary focus within this 2nd season has been a search for Sophia, who ran off while the rest of the group was hiding under cars from an approaching horde of “Walkers” (zombies, for those unfamiliar with the show) on the highway. This has created a situation in which, at least through the fourth episode (aired on November 6th), forces the survivors to search for their lost companion while scrapping to survive, and dealing with interpersonal conflicts and relationships. Essentially, Sophia has created even more strain on what was already a difficult journey to Fort Benning.

One of the most compelling aspects of this show, as its second season develops, is proving to be the fact that unforeseen complications can arise at any minute. Whether walkers show up, or a human does something drastic out of a survival instinct or panic situation, there are constant hurdles for Grimes and company to overcome. This has kept the show very dynamic, and has kept viewers entertained constantly. Fans are chomping at the bit for the next episode. It will be fascinating to see what comes next as the group continues to journey through the harsh new world they live in, aiming for Fort Benning.
